CIP Tafalla- November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

NOVEMBER 25, INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ELIMINATION OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

Annually, every November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is commemorated to denounce all acts of violence against women, whether physical, sexual or psychological. This date coincides with the day of the murder of the Mirabal sisters, known as “The butterflies”, who carried out political activism in the Dominican Republic.

At CIP Tafalla we wanted to participate in this event and we have done so. Initially, all the students from the center have gone down the streets. A banner that I had prepared was displayed in which you could read "One violence, a thousand forms" and we have marched towards the Plaza de Tafalla.

Plaza de Tafalla.

When we have arrived, we have placed ourselves in a circle around the feminist symbol, which was in the center. The City Council of Tafalla has read a manifesto in which it was claimed that the most widespread violence is that exerted against women, that violence is not exclusively physical aggression, and that children also die from violence of gender.

Next, the names of the 37 women murdered, so far, in 2021 in our country have been read. Each of the names was written on different posters that some students carried and, as they were named, they went out to the center with the poster raised and they were placed around the feminist symbol.

To end the act, a minute of silence has been kept for all the women victims of this type of violence who have died and for those who still suffer it. Subsequently, we have returned to the CIP Tafalla in march led by the banner.

It has been a small act with which we intend to do our bit to raise awareness of the reality that gender violence still lives and suffers, a problem that we all have to fight together.

  1. It is very nice that they are doing this kind of demonstrations for all of us and so that there will be no more cases of abuse or gender violence.
