All you can see from my window - my thoughts about Isolation during the pandemics ( ENSINUS ETP/INETE)

My thoughts about isolation during the pandemics

“All you can see from my window...”, or would it be more “what can you not see from my window?” For me, it makes more sense "what you don't see" in the face of the world pandemic situation, many things are no longer seen in the world. And when I refer to the world, the city where I also live, better known as Lisbon, capital of Portugal.

Lisbon is an European city with a big name when it comes to tourism, as we can find tourists at any time of the year, but due to the situation we live in, it's really sad to no longer see the typical Lisbon city and its big and small movement. Can't be seen, can't be heard and can't be smelled. When I refer to these stimuli, I conclude that Lisbon is a city that does not take a vacation, probably this year 2020 had to do so. Not by choice, but by obligation, with this, it brought as many good things as very bad things.

- Let's start with the bad ones. Lisbon seems like a ghost town without joy, without its music from the restaurants, its plates and cutlery touching each other, both the cutlery and the people. One no longer hears the echo of those adults' laughter after leaving the restaurants that circulated in the streets, all this, just by a microscopic being that is capable of spreading the caus. This virus means that, for the first time in my life, I am closed at home for 38 days without having gone out on the street once, in addition, I also don't see my friends physically, I get tired of making video calls. This virus can do as bad as a war, there are deaths, there are as many minor as serious injuries, there is isolation, loneliness, sadness and stress. In the midst of all this, one can also observe how there is a devaluation by those who deserve it most.

The positive side of all this is that the world is taking a rest from the human being, with this there is less air and noise pollution and less consumerism. It seems that the nature of the city has gained more voice than the nature of cars. In this world, the pressure of society nowadays is very great, it reached a certain point that adults who worked exhaustively during the week and became a “vegetable”, that is, the daily life of an adult is based on their job. In the space of a week, 7 days, 5 are working 8 hours a day and two resting (weekend) that serve to recover the energies that were lost and used in that work week, all this, routinely every month every year.

If we are going to analyze the normal life of an adult who lives most of his life in the city stuck to a routine, responsibilities, duties and little rest, how is there time for him to stop abstracting himself from everything and everyone and do an introspective and questioning of what surrounds him. Is it worth spending our life's energy on superficial things? Or is it perhaps choosing to spend our energy on something that brings us purpose and pleasure for the short time we are here? It's up to each one to make their choice... maybe this virus will wake up some sleeping minds.

With this, it seems that the virus has a relatively good and a bad part, perhaps society needs to open its eyes and try to understand the hole it is creating and that there are more important things than money and material goods, the world at the moment it needs health and hope and from my window I still haven't been able to see that, I see people complying with the rules, standards and the normal follow-up of society as well as others not doing it. With this, I would like to see through my window union, health and values that really matter. Open the window and ask yourself what you would like to see.
